Pinterest Recipe Try Out: Office Holiday Party!

I feel so silly for making all of these holiday treats, and not taking photos of the final product! What kind of blogger am I? Obviously not a good one. Nevertheless, these five Christmas desserts were so much fun to make for the Holiday office party I coordinated this last Friday. Every treat was a hit, and we barely had leftovers!

All of the recipes are linked below, as well as my take on how difficult each recipe was to do.

Oreo Ball Recipe from The Budget Diet

These balls of joy will probably put on a pound or two - but boy will it be worth it. These Oreo Balls are so delicious, and you can top them however you’d like! I like to make my Oreo Balls big and just let the filling speak for itself. Plus, white chocolate is so good by itself that it doesn’t need any toppings. I think these Oreo Balls can be customized with different kinds of chocolate, different flavors of Oreos…I mean a dark chocolate lemon Oreo ball doesn’t sound bad to me.

Take a look at the ingredients & instructions below, grabbed directly from The Budget Diet’s website.

Ingredients:

  • 1 16 oz. package Oreos store brand works fine!

  • 1 8 oz. package cream cheese softened

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 24 oz. white chocolate bark this melts well and is ideal for dipping

  • 6 oz. chocolate chips optional

Instructions:

  1. Crumble Oreos in a food processor.

  2. Mix together crumbled Oreos, cream cheese and powdered sugar.

  3. Roll into 1" balls and chill 30 minutes.

  4. Melt white chocolate bark according to package directions.

  5. Use a fork or toothpick to dip balls and place on wax paper to dry.

  6. Optional: melt chocolate chips according to package directions, spoon into a small zip top bag and close, cut a tiny hole in the corner and drizzle the chocolate on top.

  7. Note: Oreo Balls freeze well!

  8. Note: experiment with different flavors of Oreos or try Nutter Butters!

Difficulty Level: 4/10

The only thing difficult about making these Oreo Balls was keeping the size consistent before they were coated with white chocolate. Maybe using an ice cream scooper could help keep the sizes the same; I’ll have to try that method next time!

Lump of Coal Rice Krispie Treats from Premeditated Leftovers

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups miniature marshmallows

  • 1½ Tablespoons butter

  • 3 - 4 cups rice cereal (use 3 cups for softer "coal")

  • 1½ cups crushed Oreo cookies, loosely packed (best to leave the filling in)

  • 4 - 10 drops black gel food coloring

Instructions:

  1. In a large microwave-safe mixing bowl, heat your marshmallows and butter for 60-90 seconds.

  2. Stir your marshmallows and mix in your food coloring until you achieve the desired color.

  3. Mix in your rice cereal and crushed Oreo cookies.

  4. Let sit for about 5 minutes until your marshmallows cool down.

  5. Use a tablespoon to scoop out your treats onto a piece of parchment paper.

  6. Cool for 20 - 30 minutes.

  7. Pack your treats a little more tightly by using your hands.

Difficulty Level: 7/10

Now this treat was a little more difficult to make, as I felt like there wasn’t enough sticky material to hold all of the dry ingredients together. I even attempted to melt more marshmallows and add it to the mixture, but it still didn’t help. I also couldn’t get the lumps of coal as black as I had hoped for, but I only used Red, Green and Blue food coloring. Do they even sell black food coloring in the grocery store? Nevertheless, they were still delicious treats and a hit at the party. I would make them again, but maybe adjust the ingredients a bit.

M&M Pretzel Twists from Tasty Kitchen

Ingredients:

  • 1 bag Pretzel Twists, Squares, Or Circles (9 Ounce Bag)

  • 1 bag Hershey's Kisses (12 Ounce Bag)

  • 1 bag (12 Oz. Size) M&Ms

Instructions:

  1. Spread your pretzels out on a cookie sheet, and place one Hershey’s Kiss on top of each pretzel.

  2. Place sheet in the oven at 275 degrees for 3 minutes–just long enough for the Kisses to get soft.

  3. Remove from oven, and immediately press a single M&M on each.

  4. Refrigerate until eating to make sure they are deliciously solid!

Difficulty Level: 1/10

If you are scrambling for a quick holiday dessert and don’t know what to make, this is the dessert you should keep at the front of your recipe book. It was so easy to set the oven, place the chocolate kisses on the pretzels, melt them, and then push M&M’s into the chocolate kisses. They are SO DELICIOUS fresh from the refrigerator. I would highly suggest this recipe to anyone during any holiday. You can mix up the M&M colors based on the holiday - how genius! 10/10 would recommend this recipe to a friend.

Christmas Chex Party Mix from Chex

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Rice Chex™ or Corn Chex™ cereal

  • 2 cups miniature marshmallows (from 10.5-oz bag)

  • 1 cup mini pretzel twists (from 16-oz bag)

  • 15 oz vanilla candy coating (almond bark) (about 9 cubes from 20-oz package)

  • 3 tablespoons holiday-colored sprinkles or nonpareils

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 cup holiday-colored candy-coated chocolate candies

Instructions:

  1. Line large rimmed cookie sheet with waxed paper. In large bowl, mix cereal, marshmallows and pretzels.

  2. In medium microwavable bowl, microwave candy coating uncovered on High 60 to 90 seconds, stirring after 1 minute, until almost melted. Stir until smooth. Pour onto cereal mixture; mix well.

  3. Spread on cookie sheet; sprinkle with holiday sprinkles, and cool completely, about 15 minutes. Break into bite-size pieces.

  4. In 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag, add coated cereal pieces and powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake to coat. Remove from bag; discard any remaining powdered sugar.

  5. In large serving bowl, mix coated cereal mixture and chocolate candies.

Difficulty Level: 3/10

This recipe was not hard to make at all, but I felt like the powdered sugar put the recipe on overboard. The Chex Mix was good as a final product before the powdered sugar was added, I could have ate it just like that! Maybe the next time around, I’ll add less powdered sugar. The Christmas Chex Mix really looked like the holidays in a dessert, as it looked like you were eating snow right off the plate.

Christmas Crack from The Simple Parent

Ingredients:

  • 24 Saltine crackers

  • 1 cup brown sugar packed

  • 1 cup 2 sticks butter

  • 11 oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup Jet-Puffed mallow bits

  • 1/2 cup red and green M&M baking chips

  • Christmas sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Line a 15 x 10 jelly roll pan with aluminum foil.

  2. Fill the entire bottom of the pan with crackers, placing them side by side but not overlapping. Set aside.

  3. Add the brown sugar and butter to a medium saucepan. Place on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until a low boil begins. Boil for 2-3 minutes (Recipe Note: Be sure to watch the brown sugar and butter mixture carefully as it boils to make sure that it doesn't burn!)

  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool for one minute. Pour over the top of the crackers.

  5. Place pan in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.

  6. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top of the crackers. Return to oven and bake for an additional 4-5 minutes or until the chocolate chips have melted.

  7. Immediately sprinkle with the mini marshmallow bits, M&M candies and sprinkles.

  8. Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes to allow the chocolate to cool and harden.

  9. Before serving, cut or break into squares.

Difficulty Level: 2/10

Alright everyone, I saved the best recipe for last. Ever since my sister-in-law showed me what crack was (no, not that kind of crack), I became obsessed and wanted to make it for myself one day. Thank goodness I had a reason to make these delicious bits of joy, since I ate every crumb that was left. It is just too good to not take a bite out of. The toffee flavor you get from the melted light brown sugar and butter is a flavor you can’t miss. I would make this recipe for any holiday, not just for the Christmas season.

Which holiday treat do you like the most? Which would you actually eat? Would you come to my office holiday party?
