5 Tech Devices Every College Student Needs to Own

There is no doubt that college students are using technology to their advantage--anything to make life easier, right? All of these products below are highly recommended by me, as I have seen them in action and also own a few of them!

Keep reading to figure out what I think are the 5 tech devices that every college student needs to own. It might make your life easier.

WONDERBOOM Speaker

The WONDERBOOM Speaker by Ultimate Ears is by far, the best Bluetooth speaker I have owned. I got mine for a steal at Target, paying $30 instead of $60+, but that is not the only reason why I love it.

This Bluetooth speaker does what other speakers can’t—it has 360 degrees sound with complete clarity and insane bass. The WONDERBOOM is also completely waterproof. If the speaker ever gets dirty, you can just rinse it off. Did I mention that this wireless speaker can float in water?

The WONDERBOOM also has the best battery life of any Bluetooth speaker that I have owned, as Ultimate Ears brags about the 10-hour battery life about this life-changing speaker.

One more thing, if you have more than one WONDERBOOM, you can stream to both speakers from one device. So, if you were to have a speaker in your family room and a speaker in your kitchen, your phone’s music would be broadcasting in both rooms. The WONDERBOOM has a wireless range for 33m (100ft), which is insanely impressive for a Bluetooth speaker.

Amazon Fire TV Stick

If you don’t have cable in your dorm room, or simply don’t want to pay the extra fees to get the channels you want, then the Amazon Fire TV Stick is your answer.

According to an Amazon spokesperson, the “Fire TV Stick is the powerful streaming media device that plugs into an HDTV and lets customers access thousands of movies, TV shows, apps, and games”, which is only a snippet of what the Fire TV Stick can do.

Many users have tried jail-breaking their Fire TV Stick by looking up YouTube hacks, hoping to get access to Live TV and unlimited movies. Garrett, my fiancé, was successful with jail-breaking our Fire TV Stick, so we get to view movies that are still in theatres. How cool, right?

I got my Amazon Fire TV Stick from Target on Black Friday for only $19.99, but now they are selling for $39.99 at most retailers. You can find info about the Fire TV Stick by Amazon here.

HP Deskjet Printer

If you’re a college student, there is a 100% guarantee that you will need to print out physical copies of assignments for your professors. You could always make a trip to the library to print out your documents, but there are going to be times where all you want to do is stay in the comfort of your home.

I understand that printers can be expensive, but looking at deals online led me to a great printer by HP that is affordable for college students on a budget.

The HP Printer DeskJet 3755 in Seagrass has all the bells and whistles in it, while also remaining compact and wireless. You can print from your mobile device, which is so cool to me, as I never had a printer with printing capabilities like that. Did I mention that this printer is my favorite color?

This DeskJet Printer from HP also serves as a copier and scanner, which is AMAZING for the price of $69.99 from Target.

Weighing only 5.13 pounds, this is the best all-in-one printer a college student can buy. You can find info about the HP Printer Deskjet 3755 from Target here.

Surge Protector

If you connect your devices into a power source, there is no doubt that you need a surge protector in your life.

Surge protectors are a safety net for your devices—meaning if a power surge happens, your devices won’t get destroyed because of the surge. Technological protection like this is vital for important projects and long essays you will most likely have to complete in college.

There is not a specific brand I recommend as far as surge protectors go, but I advise that you buy one that is compatible with your various devices and works with your lifestyle. If you have more than 5 devices needing to be plugged in, you may want to consider a bigger surge protector with at least 10 outlets.

By not getting a surge protector, you are making yourself more susceptible to technical mishaps that happen at the worst of times. Better be safe than sorry, and purchase a surge protector immediately.

You can find info about the surge protectors available at Target here.

Noise-canceling, wireless headphones

In college, there are countless distractions around you. Unfortunately, we notice all of these distractions when we need to be completely focused—let’s say you need to study for a big test, but the chatter in the library is too loud to bare.

My brother got me the SoundBuds Slim Bluetooth Headphones from Anker for Christmas, and I have been using them daily without disappointment.

Not only are these wireless Bluetooth headphones lightweight, but they also connect magnetically by putting both earbuds together. This makes it easier to not lose your headphones when you’re on the go.

These slim headphones are also water resistant, with a sport headset and a mic. The sound quality from these headphones are amazing, as I can crank the volume to 75% and still have crystal clear sound clarity, and amazing bass as well.

You can find info about the SoundBuds Slim Bluetooth Headphones from Anker here.
