Summer 2021 Fashion Trends: Worth the Hype?
I have never truly delved into the world of fashion trends, but for this blog post, I was feeling inspired. And that is the point of this blog, right? To inspire others & to be maybe, Inspired by Diane?
Cheesy statement, aside...today's blog post is about some Summer 2021 Fashion Trends I've found, and if I believe they are worth the hype.
Scarf Tops
The fashion trend of scarf tops has come and gone in our modern fashion history. For those who have bigger breasts, it can be hard to achieve the scarf top look, like other individuals can with smaller breasts.
I think this trend is worth the hype for those who have the breast shape & size to achieve this look. Maybe if you have blanket scarf, you could pull this scarf top look off with a bigger chest.
Non Skinny Jeans
Since I am a millenial (born in 1995) I love me some skinny jeans. I have more skinny jeans in my dresser than straight cut jeans. But as I grow older and my body starts changing, I start to like the idea of wearing non-skinny jeans.
Since I am a person who experiences chronic stomach bloating & pain due to a sensitive stomach and dairy sensitivity, I like my pants to stretch and have room.
For me, this trend is worth the hype because fashion is cyclicle, and I believe we should all embrace different fashion trends as they come, and give them a try. The worst that could happen is that you return the item.
Slip Dresses
Althought slip dresses are typically thought as a bedroom clothing item, they are starting to appeal more to the summer wardrobe that we have seen all over social media.
I love the fact that slip dresses can be at different lengths, different sheer-nesses, and also different colors. Slip dresses don't always have to be lace, you know. Most slip dresses I have seen worn in summer trends have been silks, which I absolutely love since it keeps you cool in the hot & humid climates we can experience.
The slip dresses trend is worth the hype for me.
Chunky Hair Accessories
I'm not sure why chunky hair accessories, jewelry, and shoes have come around in 2021 fashion, but I am curious to learn more about it. Maybe it's because you are trying to make more of a statement? Or maybe it is because we have been hiding behind our medical masks for a whole year and we are ready to be flamboyant and noticed?
Whatever the case may be, chunky hair accessories do have a place in how you where them. For me, since I have a pixie cut hairstyle, I can only manage to pull off maybe one chunky hair clip on the long side of my hair part. For those who have longer hair & could possibly hold their hair in a ponytail, chunky hair accessories may be a hair accessory they are more likely to pull off.
Personally, this trend is not worth the hype, and I think it is subjective to the individual and their hair styling preferences.
Oversized T-Shirts & Hoodies
College girls across the US have been rocking the oversized t-shirt & hoodie trend for years now. Back when I was in college from 2014-2018, I loved wearing oversized t-shirts when I didn't feel like wearing anything body conforming. Sometimes, you just need to be loose and let the air inside.
I think I might have a biased opinion, but this trend is worth the hype for me, as I think this will always be a trend that sits in the back of our mind as a default fashion statement to pull out when we are lazy.
Skinny Retro Glasses
To be honest...I do not get the skinny retro glasses trend. For someone who has hooded eyes & is also very sensitive to light, I need all the eye protection I can get. I understand for Instagram purposes, but for practical purposes these glasses are not for me.
The skinny retro glasses trend is not worth the hype in my book, as I need more protection and there are still many retro glasses with larger frames that you can rock on your face.
Platform White Sneakers
I actually own a pair of platform white sneakers, and I absolutely love wearing them. Not only are they simple, but they can also dress up any outfit. I loved wearing these shoes with a floral blue romper, like the one pictured here, since it is simple but also a statement.
These platform white sneakers are 100% worth the hype, but I do think that dad sneakers that look like they are truly pulled from the early 90's are a little bit of a stretch. Might want to leave those chunky dad sneakers for the dads.
Mini Skirts
In my recent years, my thighs have gotten bigger and I don't really like to confine them together, since I get rashes on the inside of my legs. Mini skirts, for me, tend to squish my legs together, of course, and it gets uncomfortable after a few hours.
Plus, when I sit down, the skirt tends to ride up on my legs and it just doesn't look good. The mini skirt trend is not worth the hype in my book.
Retro Florals
Some pieces can pull off the retro floral trend, while others truly do look like they were taken from the tablescape of your grandma's dining table. I have a lot of floral pieces in my closet, but I wouldn't consider any of them retro.
It depends on the floral print, but retro florals can be pulled off. Be careful, but retro florals are worth the hype in my book.
Crochet anything
Crochet dresses, pants, tops, purses and hats have been made & shown on Pinterest for some trendy reason. I have seen different Instagrammers/YouTubers like Haley Pham rock some crochet pants, and then there are some other individuals who cannot pull of crochet clothing for the life of them.
For me, personally, crochet clothing is not worth the hype in my book. I think this is a trend with an upcoming expiration date.
What is your opinion on these summer 2021 fashion trends? Are they worth the hype?
