7 Things You Need to Do Every Day

When I started thinking about what I do every day, it made the gears in my head start turning about how this could apply to people other than myself. And I truly believe that each of these things mentioned below can make your day better, and will establish a routine. Enough chit-chat! Let’s get going on the 7 things you need to do every day.

#1: Take a moment to breathe

Do you know how much your body is affected by the way you take a breath? I have noticed countless times when I was overly stressed or overwhelmed, my breath would be short and quick - not long and deep as breaths should usually be. Without us filling our lungs to their fullest capacity, we are just causing ourselves to be short of breath by not paying attention to it.

Take a moment out of your day today and really take a deep breath. Notice how your chest fills up with air, and how much more relaxed you are after taking that deep breath.

#2: Exfoliate, cleanse, moisturize

I know I’m not the biggest skincare advocate, but lately, I have heard about the benefits of doing these 3 steps as you wash your face in the morning or at night. Exfoliating your skin of dirt and grime, cleaning it all away, and moisturizing the skin that was stripped of its’ moisture, are all important steps into a simple skincare routine.

You don’t need to own the bougiest items to get a good skincare routine going. There are plenty of affordable options out there, such as Clean & Clear or E.L.F. (eyes lips face). Do some research, make sure the ingredients in your skincare won’t cause a reaction and get started on keeping your skin clear and fresh.

#3: Compliment someone

I live by the daily rule of complimenting someone at least once a day. You truly never know what the other person is going through within their own life. Just imagine this scenario:

A man just went through a break-up and is feeling really down on himself. The workweek comes around, and he is deciding what to wear for the day. He picks out a shirt that is a little bit out of his comfort zone, but he wanted to try it out for the day. As he walked into the office, countless people complimented him on his shirt, and how great he looks in it. Those simple compliments made that man’s day better and could have a positive snowball effect afterward.

Don’t be afraid to compliment someone! Just don’t be creepy about it.

#4: At the end of your day, remember what you are thankful for

As we go through the daily motions, we don’t take time to recognize what we are thankful for. For me personally, I am trying to make it more of a habit now to take a moment before I go to bed, and think about what I am thankful for within that day. I could be thankful for having a good lunch, or that the workday went by fast.

As long as you are thankful for something, and expressing that gratitude in one way or another, you will feel more positive and optimistic the more you do it.

#5: Smile at least once

Do you know that saying “fake it ‘til you make it”? That can apply to smile as well! No matter if the smile is genuine or not, your brain will release endorphins when you smile, making you feel happier. Smiling releases natural chemicals that help elevate your mood, and also relax your body while reducing physical pain.

Try smiling at least once a day, and maybe it will become more of a habit for you and the people around you.

#6: Jot down some thoughts

It doesn't matter what you write or doodle - as long as you get whatever is floating around in your head onto the page. Doesn't even have to be a page! It could be a digital note or a drawing. Let that stuff out of your brain, so you can spend your time thinking about the important stuff.

#7: Get some exercise

All of the things I have mentioned in this blog post so far don’t have to be done 110%. Little steps is a big change. This is why getting some exercise is a great first step!

Whether it is walking around the block with your dog, parking farther away in the parking lot, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator - tiny steps make a big difference.

So - what did you think? Do you feel like these things are easy to implement in your daily routine?
